University residences will be left without students this year - Top Buzz Times Following deadly violence surrounding the quota reform protests, the University Grants Commission ordered all public and private universities to halt academic activities and the university administrations are asking students to leave their residential halls per the UGC's decision.
Since Wednesday morning, the syndicates of the different universities have met to decide what time students have to vacate the halls.
At least six people were killed in clashes between the quota reform protesters, the police, and the Chhatra League in Chattogram, Dhaka and Rangpur on Tuesday.
In response, the Ministry of Education closed schools and colleges indefinitely. Thursday’s Higher Secondary Certificate exams were suspended.
On Tuesday night, the UGC sent letters to all public and private universities, and medical and textile engineering colleges instructing them to close. The vice-chancellors at these universities have been sent the letters.
